this article has some problems with respect to Martin V's election, or rather, how his predecessors left office. I don't know the truth, but I put a small bit on the Western Schism discussion page. Brassrat 15:46, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

If the text is from an unnameable encyclopedia, how do we know the text isn't copyrighted??? There ought to be a date if not full citation for such included text

I submitted it originally. The encyclopedia is a very well known title, this was from the 9th edition from the 1880s, well before the american company that now owns the name bought it from the scottish publishers. Basically we don't name the encyclopedia so as to avoid any suggestion that this use of what is now public domain is sanctioned in any way (it's not) by the current owners of the encyclopedia name -- Malcolm Farmer

So is Oddone his actual given name? While reading, I've found that sometimes Martin's given name is spelled as Odo. Or would Odo just be an informal way of saying his name?

Every other person on Wikipedia is identified by their birth names, not titles or honorifications. Someone should move this page to Odo (or Oddone) Colonna. 65.88.88.56 (talk) 20:51, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Source used in footnote [5]

In that source I find "He was in the full vigor of life being only forty-one years of age." How was that arrived at for his age at time of being elected pope? This wikipedia article has age 48 for this.

That source says 1368 for year of birth. This wikipedia article has 1369; HOWEVER, I also see Jan/Feb, so was the discrepancy caused by having the new year start in March? The Gregorian calendar wasn't introduced until 1582. Carlm0404 (talk) 18:09, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Improper citation of Dutch Wikipedia

Wikipedia's policy is explained WP:CIRCULAR

"Do not use articles from Wikipedia (whether English Wikipedia or Wikipedias in other languages) as sources, since Wikipedia is a user-generated source. Also, do not use websites mirroring Wikipedia content or publications relying on material from Wikipedia as sources. Content from a Wikipedia article is not considered reliable unless it is backed up by citing reliable sources. Confirm that these sources support the content, then use them directly." The claim in the citation that the Dutch article is fully cited is irrelevant and may or may not be true. One must confirm that the sources support the content, and then USE THE SOURCES DIRECTLY.

The problematical citation is NOT about Martin V, but about a group of people involved in the Hussite Wars. It is tangential at best. I am deleting it.
